Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA)

PHA is a leading independent community-based organization for people with PAH. Its mission is to find ways to prevent and cure PAH, while providing hope and practical services to the community of people who have PAH or have a loved one with this disorder. Visit PHAssociation.org.

Know Your PH

Know Your PH provides useful, credible information on PAH, including how to recognize symptoms, diagnostic testing, and treatment options. Here you’ll find information on the Joan Lamphier Memorial Research Foundation. The foundation, which was formed in 2004 in loving memory of a PAH patient, seeks to improve the quality of life for PAH patients and their families and to educate others on this complex life-threatening disease. The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI)

The NHLBI is part of the National Institutes of Health, the agency responsible for conducting much federally funded medical research. The NHLBI Web site has easy-to-understand information about many diseases affecting the heart and lungs. Visit nhlbi.nih.gov and search for PAH.

Scleroderma Foundation

The Scleroderma Foundation is a national nonprofit health organization dedicated to a threefold mission of support, education, and research to help fight this autoimmune disease. National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD)

International Society for Heart & Lung Transplantation (ISHLT)

ISHLT is dedicated to the advancement of the science and treatment of end-stage heart and lung diseases. Additionally, the ISHLT International Registry for Heart and Lung Transplantation was established to provide ongoing, up-to-date information on the thoracic organ transplant experience around the world. The surface area of the lungs is about 160 m2, which is roughly equal to the size of a tennis court.1,2

At rest, a person breathes ~12 to 15 times per minute. That’s at least 17,000 times/day and over 6 million breaths/year.2
